The Chairman, Delta State Internal Revenue Service and National Leader of the OSU Political Forum, Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, has commended the Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his bold economic vision, describing the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 as a defining moment in the state's journey towards sustainable growth and prosperity.
Speaking at the summit yesterday, Ighrakpata said Governor Oborevwori's declaration that Delta State can no longer depend solely on oil revenue reflects the kind of visionary leadership needed to build a resilient and globally competitive economy.
According to him, the governor's commitment to diversifying the state's economy through strategic investments in agriculture, livestock, the blue economy, solid minerals, renewable energy, digital innovation, transportation and manufacturing will unlock Delta's vast economic potential and create lasting opportunities for the people.
He noted that the establishment of a US$100 million Viability Gap Fund to de-risk private sector investments, the introduction of tax incentives, the creation of the Ease of Doing Business Council, and the allocation of over 12,000 hectares of land for commercial agriculture demonstrate that the Oborevwori administration is backing its vision with concrete policies capable of attracting local and international investors.
Ighrakpata also applauded the governor's investment promotion missions to China and Brazil, describing them as proactive efforts that have already begun yielding results through strategic partnerships in agribusiness, livestock production, energy and industrial development.
He said the endorsements received from Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, business leaders and international investors further validate Delta State's growing reputation as one of Nigeria's most attractive investment destinations.
The Revenue Service Boss stated that the summit showcased Delta's comparative advantages, including its rich deposits of solid minerals, vast agricultural land, strategic coastline, abundant natural gas resources, expanding blue economy and investor-friendly environment, all of which position the state for rapid industrialisation and inclusive economic growth.
Ighrakpata added that as Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, he is particularly encouraged by the administration's focus on expanding the productive sectors of the economy, noting that economic diversification will strengthen internally generated revenue through increased business activities, broaden the tax base, create thousands of jobs and reduce dependence on volatile oil revenues.
He urged investors to seize the opportunities presented by the summit and partner with the Delta State Government in translating investment commitments into viable projects that will accelerate development across the state.
"Gov Oborevwori has demonstrated that the future of Delta lies beyond oil. By investing in agriculture, the blue economy, mining, energy, technology and industrial development, his administration is laying the foundation for a stronger, more resilient and prosperous economy. This strategic direction will unlock Delta's full potential and secure a better future for generations to come," Ighrakpata stated.
