The phenomenal rise in Delta State's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from about ₦84 billion in 2023 to over ₦200 billion is yet another validation of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's purposeful leadership and the effectiveness of the M.O.R.E Agenda in repositioning the state's economy for sustainable growth.

At the heart of this remarkable fiscal transformation is the Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS), led by its Executive Chairman, Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, whose strategic leadership has strengthened the state's revenue architecture through innovation, efficiency, transparency and taxpayer-friendly reforms.

The recent commendation by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) further underscores the outstanding work being done by the Oborevwori administration in diversifying the state's economy and reducing its dependence on oil revenue. The Commission's endorsement is not only a recognition of sound economic policies but also an affirmation of the quality of leadership driving revenue administration in Delta State.

The state's IGR increased by more than 138 percent without imposing additional tax burdens on citizens. Instead, the growth was driven by expanding the tax net, improving tax administration, enhancing compliance and strengthening revenue collection systems.

These achievements reflect the deliberate reforms championed by Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata at the Delta State Internal Revenue Service. Under his watch, the Service has embraced technology, institutional reforms and stakeholder engagement to build public confidence in the tax system while ensuring that more eligible taxpayers are brought into the tax net.

The impressive revenue growth has provided the financial backbone for Governor Oborevwori's massive investments in roads, bridges, flyovers, healthcare, education, agriculture, security and human capital development across the State. It is a practical demonstration that effective revenue mobilisation translates directly into visible development that touches the lives of ordinary Deltans.

The administration's economic diversification agenda, anchored on agriculture, infrastructure development and strategic Public-Private Partnerships, has created new opportunities for investment and broadened the state's revenue base. This forward-looking approach has positioned Delta State as one of Nigeria's leading subnational economies.

It is therefore not surprising that the RMAFC delegation, led by Mr. Victor Eboigbe, applauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for implementing policies that are building a resilient economy and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Such national recognition reflects the growing confidence in Delta State's fiscal management and economic direction.

As Executive Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service, Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata has continued to demonstrate that visionary leadership, institutional discipline and commitment to excellence can produce extraordinary results.  His unwavering dedication to strengthening the state's revenue base has become a critical pillar supporting Governor Oborevwori's development agenda.

The unprecedented growth in Delta State's Internally Generated Revenue is more than a statistical achievement, it is a testament to a government that is working, a revenue system that is delivering, and a leadership team determined to secure a stronger, more prosperous and economically resilient Delta State for present and future generations.
