ICAN Honours Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata with Award of Excellence, Lauds His Leadership and Commitment to Fiscal Accountability

In a colorful ceremony marking four decades of impact, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Warri & District Society, has conferred its prestigious Award of Excellence on Hon. Chief Solomon Ighrakpata, Executive Chairman of the Delta State Internal Revenue Service. 

The award recognizes his outstanding leadership, unwavering support for the accounting profession, and contributions to the growth of ICAN in Delta State.
  
The honour was bestowed during the 40th Anniversary celebration of ICAN Warri & District Society, held at the ICAN Resource Centre, Warri. The landmark event drew a cross-section of the accounting community, government officials, traditional leaders, and captains of industry.

Hon. Ighrakpata, who was invited as a Special Guest of Honour, was ably represented by Chief Kenneth Akpotu, Deputy Director, Processing Unit DSIRS, Office of the Chairman. 

Delivering the goodwill message on behalf of the Delta State Revenue Boss, Chief Akpotu expressed profound appreciation to ICAN for its 40 years of unbroken service to professionalism and nation-building. He noted that the Institute remains a critical partner in the state’s drive for fiscal sustainability.

“ICAN has consistently stood for integrity and technical excellence. Your work strengthens public confidence in financial reporting and tax administration. We urge you to do more, especially in the areas of tax education and compliance advocacy,” he stated.

Chief Akpotu reaffirmed DIRS’s commitment to sustained collaboration with ICAN. He disclosed that under Hon. Ighrakpata’s leadership, the Service is working assiduously to modernize tax practices, leverage technology for efficiency, and broaden the tax net to capture more eligible businesses and individuals.

“This award is not just recognition, it is a call to deeper partnership. The Delta State Internal Revenue Service will continue to partner in progress with ICAN to promote voluntary compliance, simplify tax processes, and ensure that revenue drives development under the M.O.R.E Agenda of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori,” he added.

The Award of Excellence adds to Hon. Ighrakpata’s growing reputation for reform-driven leadership, stakeholder engagement, and institutional transparency. Since assuming office, he has prioritized staff capacity building, automation of revenue processes, and strategic engagement with professional bodies to entrench best practices.

Dignitaries at the event commended the synergy between DIRS and ICAN, describing it as a model for how government agencies and professional institutions can jointly advance accountability and economic growth.
